I’m Sure I’ll Get Around To Titling This Tomorrow

My task for the coming week is to try to break down and analyze the subtle “LORD NO PLEASE DON’T MAKE ME DO IT I DON’T WANT TO DO IT KEEP IT AWAY ACK ACK” reaction that I sometimes have to work-related or administrative tasks.  You have paperwork to be done?  I can do that for you.  Here, let me help.  I have paperwork to be done?  ….Wait, where did I go?  …Me? … Hello?  …Bueller?

I think maybe it has something to do with how long I’ve been putting off…Er…I mean, legitimately unable to complete it.  The longer it sits in that pile on my desk, giving me judgmental sidelong glances, the less I want to have anything to do with it.  See, by that time it comes all tied up with reassuring things like stress, and guilt, and feelings of failure.  And I’m just not always nice enough to allow myself that kind of reassurance.

(I’m a bitch like that sometimes.)

On the plus (and completely unrelated) side, on my way home today I finally remembered to pick up some BBQ lighters.  I like them for lighting candles, and aromatherapy diffuser thingies (Don’t judge – research says that they might actually help.  And I don’t actually own any hemp, nor to my knowledge has anything I’m currently wearing been tie dyed.), and the citronella candles for our backyard.  And with the overwhelming burden of all of these many things that I simply must light on fire, I figured that more than one lighting device, located in more than one location, might be handy to have.  I’m not entirely sure what the cashier thought when I went in and purchased three barbeque lighters and a roll of tape.  I’m sure it was perfectly innocent.

…so gangsta, I’m so thug, you’re the only one I’m dreaming of ya see…

I just read that over again and realized I picked the lyrics that sound the most suggestive…woops :)

It’s okay. I’m hot for you too. ;)

I feel the same way about paperwork! Some paperwork. Mostly the donation letters. You know, the Deputy Sheriff’s Association calls to get your donation to help battered women (not to help batter women, which is how that sounded to me the first time I heard them say it), or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation calls for a donation to stop pollution, and then the Make A Wish Foundation calls because you donated last year, and can this poor kid over here count on your support?

I try not to over-promise, but I eventually agree to $25 here, or $10 there, and yes, send me the information in the mail and I’ll send that check right back, and then it arrives and goes to the bottom of the pile, but I know it’s there. It’s looking at me hopefully every time I clear off the island.

So yes. Guilt is involved. Big time.

  5. Hey, I found your blog on Naked Cupcakes and I’m really enjoying it. Great work! I hope things start going better for you. I’m for sure going to stick around to see how things go. Especially if you keep drawing stick figures making out. Awesome.

  6. Piles of paperwork are intimidating to be sure. I call the piles containing our important paperwork scary piles. They migrate from surface to surface (especially if someone is coming over to our house), and I finally force myself to go through the pile. I call them “scary,” because often there is a pressing paper or two in there that’s been neglected. Like the phone bill. Again. Or papers for school… whoops!

So you did just say you bought three instruments that have the ability to ignite things? Paper is flammable.

Paper + ignition tool = no more guilt about paperwork (granted some kid might be starving because you’re not donating any money to them- but sometimes it’s gotta be all about you!)

    I’m just saying….

Zannah and Wombat Central – I’m glad to know it’s not just me! I tried to explain this to my therapist once, and she looked at me in total confusion. Really? Other people don’t feel this way? Even other people in therapy??

notquiteawake – I’m so glad you’re here! Thanks for saying hi. :) If the stick romance quotient ever dips too low, you just let me know and I will post a few sticky liaisons just for you.

SuzRocks – I laughed out loud when I read your comment. It makes so much sense. I can’t believe the connection didn’t occur to me. Plus, think of the heating costs we’ll save next winter!

I used all my AT&T bills as kindling this winter.
