First the rules:
1. Respond and rework. Answer the questions on your blog. Replace one question that you dislike with a question of your invention, and add one more question of your own.
2. Tag other people.
Now the questions:
What are you wearing today? Jean shorts that aside from one pair of beige things are the closest I have to shorts that currently fit me (and by “closest to currently fitting,” I mean make me look a bit like a wannabe rap star. But a moderate one). Losing weight was kind of delightful, but the wardrobe is a bit lacking and we don’t really have the funds to replace EVERY PIECE OF CLOTHING I HAVE EVER OWNED. So I look a little gangsta for now. I won’t mention what size the too-big shorts are, but it makes me squee. The shirt is fairly generic, light grey-blue, chosen in the hopes that the oodles of dust I was going to get on it unpacking today wouldn’t be too obvious.
What’s for dinner? Not a hell of a lot, but I do have the excuse of currently having no kitchen sink, counter, etc. I do have a fridge and a microwave, though, and two slices of leftover pizza. So…two slices of leftover pizza (with different and slightly bizarre combinations of toppings. I’m big on variety), and a pear. Because I also had pears.
What would you eat for your last meal? I have no clue. I would probably demand bite-size portions of some totally wrong combination of foods – strawberry shortcake, filet mignon with sautéed mushrooms, watermelon, a really good taco, and some McDonald’s fries, maybe?
What relaxes you most? I wish I knew. Yoga is good sometimes. Snuggling with my cats is great. Snuggling with my husband is better, depending on what kind of mood he’s in. Head or back massage is pretty fantastic too, provided it’s the relaxation-oriented kind, not the drive-bits-of-bone-through-my-torso-in-the-hopes-that-the-tears-of-agony-will-wash-away-the-tension kind that I normally end up with when I go to a professional. …My muscles are a little tense.
If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would it be? Paris. We went for our honeymoon last year, and I loved it, loved it, loved it. It would be nice to get away from everything and have no obligations but to sit in a dim restaurant somewhere and have a glass of great wine with my sweetie. To be honest, the honeymoon wasn’t our finest moment anyway (severe jetlag and resulting grumpiness), so I’d love to be back when we were more our usual selves.
What language do you want to learn? I love learning languages, but tend not to get very far with them. I have a bad habit of losing interest once that whole “work” and “practice” part kicks in. I took a class in Mandarin Chinese in my last year of University because I actually had room for some elective courses (finally!). I’ve forgotten how to say just about everything except “What is your name,” “How is your mother,” and various things about the bank and post office. They were quite fond of the bank and post office for some reason. Do they do a lot of mailing cheques in China that I don’t know about? Anyway, I would love to pick that up again. I get a little nostalgic every time I look at my textbooks and realize that I used to know what those characters mean. Now that one means “black squiggly.” …That one too.
What do you love most about where you currently live? The trees! The peace! The fact that the bank is letting me stay here as long as I keep paying them.
What style is your current home decorated in? Um…boxes and sawdust? Realistically, the current look is the very chic Ikea meets Wal-Mart. All of our furniture is what we had from our first apartment, with the exception of a dark wood bed frame and a pull out couch that we bought used before we moved. The bathroom (which we were able to renovate closer to our actual tastes) has a wall of stone pebbles at the back of the shower (our big splurge, but totally worth it!), grey tiles, and a generally serene look.
If you were a time traveler what era would you live in? The theory of medieval times sounds appealing, but I’m not so big on the plague and lack of bathing. Maybe I’ll go forward to the era of Coffee and Snacks.
What is your favorite color? Hard to say. I used to be big into grayish-blue, but was so much into grayish-blue that I think I’m rebelling. I like lemony yellow a lot. Bright and happy colours make me smile, but I’ve never been big on the red/orange spectrum.
What is your favorite piece of clothing in your own wardrobe? I have this bra with turquoise straps and bright rainbow stripes across it. Plus it makes my boobs look reasonably shaped, which for some reason is a novelty. Why they make bras that try to either flatten or cone me, I don’t know. Many of my other favourites no longer fit me. Awesome evening dress with the pretty shades of iridescent greys and blacks that swishes around when I move and makes me feel sassy? No good. Perfect pair of black dress pants that make my ass look great? No longer.
I’m in mourning.
What were you doing ten years ago? Ten years ago was the first summer I stayed in my University town rather than coming home, largely (okay, exclusively) due to the in town boyfriend of the time. I was working at a hardware store (which was apparently the only job I was qualified for after randomly getting hired by one as my first job during high school), feeling all empowered and stuff, and being largely ignored by customers who didn’t want to trust the word of a petite young female when it came to home renovations. Twenty years ago, I was gaining a baby sister. Thirty years ago, I was toilet training.
What are you going to do after this? Unpack some more. I’m working my way through the office, as it seems to be one of the only rooms I really have full access to at the moment. The nesting is fun, but the tedium is getting to me a bit, and I have a bad habit of not taking breaks. At all. Ever.
If the hubby is home by then, we’ll probably watch an episode of Dexter and head to bed.
What are your favorite films? Hmm…Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean (the first one), Dangerous Liaisons, The Princess Bride,…a bunch of other things that I can never remember when asked this question. I like a lot of movies that made me sincerely laugh or cry.
What are your favorite books? I’m a fantasy person. I’ve really enjoyed selected stuff by Michelle West, Anne Bishop,…I just got up to go browse my novels before realizing that they aren’t unpacked yet, so I guess the list pretty much ends there. I also still have a special place in my heart for “The Fire’s Stone” by Tanya Huff, which was one of my first favorites.
Do you collect anything? Bruises, mostly. Large, unexplained bruises.
What makes you follow a blog? Humor that resonates with mine. A sense of kinship or ability to relate is good too. I like following people who seem like I might enjoy having a couple of drinks or playing a board game with.
What was the most enjoyable thing you did today? Well,…it was NOT finding out that my living room is not recovering well from the previous owner’s poorly potty-trained dog, or that our washing machine smells like ass for some unexplained reason. I pet my cat today, and he purred like a big brown contorted freight train. I also had a nice cup of coffee with breakfast. That morning coffee is one of the things in my life that feels like a real indulgence. Not sure why, since I have one every day. Might be a carry over from when I rarely drank coffee. Still, I’ll take it.
Ann’s Question: What makes you comment on a blog? Too much free time? Not enough? Something I can relate to? One of those moods? Not sure. I’m not a big commenter in general, although I love getting comments on my own stuff. Though to be fair, a lot of the blogs I read regularly have enough readers that I’m sure they’d never see my comments anyway. The exception is on posts that hit on an issue I feel strongly about, if I feel someone’s being treated unfairly, or if someone seems to sincerely need support. I would have a hard time resisting supportive comments in that case.
Amy’s Question: What is your favorite thing to do when you have free time? Again, I really wish I knew. I’ve spent so long without the concept of free time that I’m not sure what to do with it now that I’ve made the commitment to create some. The theory always seemed so clear from a distance.
Really, I love doing just about anything with my husband. This may make me a little pathetic/needy/dependent/whatever. It also makes me very happily married.
Tonya’s Question: What is a talent you wished you had? Coming up with clever answers to this question.
Noelle’s Question: If you could go to heaven, who would you see and why? I would see…um…Einstein, maybe, just because he seemed pretty clever in more ways than just his physics. Maybe God, just to satisfy my curiosity.
Vickie’s Question: Who is your favorite actor? I’m not sure that I have one. I tend to like Morgan Freeman for some reason, though it’s maybe just the characters he tends to play.
Kitten’s Question: Other than Blogger, Facebook, Twitter, etc. what are your most frequently visited websites? Umm…Google.com, my work e-mail, online banking,…? I do a lot of researching things…?
SeptemberMom’s Question: What was your favorite subject in school? Math. Math was always great because if you knew what you were doing, you could actually get 100% on things. If something was right, it was right. English always bothered me a bit for that reason. I also love, love, loved musical theatre.
Christy’s question: As a child/teen how did you envision your adult life? Geez. Focused on a gaggle of kids, which I surely would have had by now. Happily married (check). I think I thought that I would be a bit more social, and have more of a clue what I’m doing.
Dan from Art of Panic’s Question: How much time do you spend on your average blog post? Anywhere from two minutes to an hour, depending on how much I’m inspired to say. I’ve tried not to edit much with this blog. No agonizing over post content as I might have once upon a time. I’m sort of enjoying having a blog forum that’s almost entirely anonymous. It does change things.
Little Ms Blogger’s Question: If you could would you want to control the weather? Only if I could choose when to control it, and not have to select the whether all the time. Of course, I would probably feel really guilty trying to make it warmer in my back yard and causing droughts all over South Asia. So no, I guess on second thought maybe I’ll let the weather be.
Susan’s Question: What is the one think you’d like to check off your “bucket list” in the next 5 years? I’m working on the whole “learn not to let work rule my life” thing right now. Would be damned nice to get that right within a year or two. Other than that, maybe something travel related, or children. I’m not really that specific with my bucket goals. I just want to look back at the end of it and know that I had a good ride.
My Question: If you could give any advice to your teenage self, what would it be? Mostly for me, that the rest of life is not like high school (in the good ways), that a sufficient number of males will find you attractive in the future so not to worry about it so much, and to invest in Google. …Oh, and stop wearing your hair like that. It looks silly.
I’ll answer pretty much anything if asked, so I didn’t bother crossing anything out. This blog currently seems to have a lot of readers with the same comment-free approach I tend to fall into, but I will tag…
and
…You’re it. Though with far less social obligation than when a group of small children surrounds and touches you.
